By looking at this study, you’d think that there are just over twice as many women infected with STD. But where did they get the numbers from? They just didn’t pick people off the streets. They got these numbers from clinics of people being tested and treated- which just means more women get tested and treated than men. Think about that.

  2. LonnieDolittle says:

I must agree with TXangel- women tend to go to the Dr more often than men do, and go sooner once symptoms begin to develope. Kinda ironic that the map shows high incidents of STD where there are military bases…

  3. Clint says:

I know why nearly twice the amount of women have STDs. It’s cause a small number of guys have sex with most of the women. Like the song says. Two girls for every boy….Well realistically most guys go home alone.

  4. Jarrow says:

I don’t know about that, LonnieDolittle. There don’t seem to be any STD’s in NC. I think there might be a few bases there…maybe some small ones?

  5. cdub says:

LonnieDolittle should brush up on her statistics. Correlation does not imply causation. The fact that military bases happen to be nearby high incidents of STD could be nothing more than coincidence.

  6. rstrau says:

The reason more woman than men have std’s lies in their genitalia. It is much more difficult for the sexual fluids to enter a man than it is a woman.

  7. Tobias says:

sure rob, you’re going to catch an STD by visiting a place …

  8. HS2 says:

Why isn’t herpes listed on this chart? Is it because 20%-25% of the population of the US is infected with it whether they know it or not?

  9. Porpoise says:

Many STDs are more easily transferred from male to female than vice versa. This could be an explanation for the discrepancy.

  10. Em says:

Yeah, it’s true. Since women have such a greater area of mucous membrane than men, it’s much much easier for us to get an STD. That’s why so many more women have STDs than men.

  11. SD says:

It is also true that men are typically, but not always, carriers of STDs but do not experience symptoms. But we also live in a time when more and more women are experimenting with their sexuality.

  12. JL says:

Your exanation that it is easier for a woman to catch than a man explains the differences is a bit strange, where are they catching it from then? It would most likely be down to the fact that women go to doctors more than men. Also due to the differences in genital regins, men tend to show less symptoms than women of STDs.

  13. Li-Li says:

People listen these are the reported cases. Many more people in America have diseases but do not get checked for them. If they go to a doctor though it is the Doctors responsibility to report the case. The reason why more females have diseases than men is not known in this case, we can make assumptions but we have no way of knowng if these are correct.
