The deal costs AED 555.00 which is a little over $150 US. The discount is for around half the price of the regular test which is a pretty good deal. Testing with your doctor or insurance carrier can reach into the thousands with the highly advanced and sensitive testing available today.

It would not be unusual to see a online offer like this in the United States. There are other types of wellness testing offers on Groupon so this type of offer is not far from that.

There seems to be a lot of chatter on the internet about this deal. Some joking and others taking it serious.

Would you buy a STD testing Groupon? How do you feel about offers such as this?

The video goes over how STD testing does not have to be scary. In this day and age testing for sexually transmitted diseases is easy to setup and accurate results are faster than ever.

Sexually transmitted disease testing locations may be subject to change. Please try to remember, the lab will not accept walk-ins. STD testing is essential for diagnosing and treating STDs, most of which will not produce virtually any symptoms. Often, premature prognosis and treatment methods are very important to curtailing more difficulties. STD testing is performed to test if a STD occurs within an individual. Despite the fact that this may be an accepted process of this specific objective, you will have to observe that this may not be 100% exact.

STDs are the leading cause of infertility.

In the US, there are about 5 million people suffering from infertility and a large number of them are due to Sexually Transmitted Diseases – Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. These diseases are known to cause infertility among women, because of the damage it can do to the Cervix.

If these STDs can’t be treated, it will develop into Pelvic Inflammatory Diseases (PID), and this condition can lead to infertility. PID is a term used to define the inflammation of a woman’s uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries, as it can develop to scar formations into the nearby tissues and organs. This may also refer to viral, fungal, and parasitic type of bacterial infections.

PID will happen if the bacteria coming from the woman’s vagina or cervix will move upward, towards the reproductive organ of her body. Those Infection-causing bacteria can easily invade ones fallopian tubes and will lead to the formation of scar tissue. This tissue will then prevent the normal movement of the eggs towards the uterus. If the fallopian tubes are blocked by these tissues, there will be no way that a sperm can fertilize the eggs, and this can lead to infertility among women. And if the fallopian tubes are slightly blocked or just partially damaged, there will be a tendency that a fertilized egg will remain on the fallopian tube, and grow there. This incident is what triggers an ectopic pregnancy.

The sexually active women that are in their childbearing years (under 25) have higher risk of developing PID. The reason behind this is because the cervix of young women is still not that fully matured, and that’s why they are very susceptible to these diseases. If a woman has multiple sex partners, she will have greater risk of developing PID. Also a woman whose partner has multiple sex partners could also be at high risk.

It’s said that there is only one in about ten women that have PID becomes infertile, but if a woman has been diagnosed of PID many times, her chances of becoming infertile increases.

Proper treatment is needed in order to treat the complications brought by PID. Broad-spectrum antibiotics are recommended in treating PID. The treatment includes anti-microbial agents that will treat gonorrhea, chlamydia and any other Sexually transmitted diseases. Appropriate treatment is necessary for women with HIV who may be more likely to have surgical intervention. The infected patient’s sexual partners are also strongly advised to undergo examination and treatment to avoid being infected.

Interesting facts from the WHO and UNAIDS regarding women being the highest risk of caring STDs and why. Also an interesting study on American teenage girls, and how 1 in 4 have some type of STD.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and The United Nations Joint Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) reported in 2008 that women comprises 50 percent of all people infected with HIV around the world. In Africa alone, 60 percent of HIV infected people are women.

Most men are encouraged to have multiple sexual partners, due to the masculinity culture that they’re brought up to. The more women they have, the more masculine they’ll feel. This resulted to the easy transmission of the virus from one woman to another. And since man’s genital organ is covered with a regular skin, unlike that of the women, it’s hard for them to transmit infections. On the other hand, the lining of the women’s vagina is made of a mucous membrane and, therefore they’re more permeable, as compared to the outer skin of the male’s penis. In addition, women have more surface area on their vagina, with which the infection can easily occur.

Women’s lack of access to information is another cause of easily and ignorantly transmitting a STD. It’s been said that only 38 percent of women, especially the young ones, have knowledge about STDs. Forced sex among women can also contribute to HIV transmission, because of the tears and lacerations that resulted from the use of force. Most women who are afraid to be physically abused by their partner cannot persuade their partners to use condom, or they’re afraid to refuse to have sex with them without any protection. Their fear of violence also leads to their fear of seeking help from medical experts; thus, they will be left untreated and will not be properly educated about STD.

South Africa has the highest number of people infected with HIV around the world. In fact, this epidemic has killed millions of South African people, and the total numbers of casualties are increasing drastically every year. About 68 percent of adults and nearly 90 percent of children in South Africa are infected with HIV in the region. Seventy-six percent deaths occur because of AIDS.

A research done by the government of Chicago in the United States reveal that one in every four teenage girls are actually positive of an STD! And among these teens, almost 50 percent of the Blacks have a STD, while only 20 percent among Whites and Mexican-American teens. This result may be attributed to the fact that more Blacks are living below the poverty line and thus having less access for adequate education.

Cultural, psychological and economical issues are huge factors in STD prevention. Proper education regarding the harm of STDs and the importance of Safe Sex could be the matter of life and death for millions every year.

All you need to know about Herpes-1 and Herpes-2. From what they are, how they are transmitted, how to know if you have them and current treatment options.

What are Herpesviruses?
These two viruses HSV-1 and HSV-2 are also known as human herpesviruses-1 and -2 (HHV-1 and -2) are the two herpes simplex viruses. Based on scientific facts, the two viruses are virtually identical, sharing approximately 50% of their DNA.
What are the difference between Herpes 1 and Herpes 2?

The main difference of these two viruses is how they establish latency in the body of the infected person or “site preference.”
HSV-1 usually establishes latency in the trigeminal ganglion, a collection of nerve cells near the ear. From there, it tends to recur on the lower lip or face.

HSV-2 usually sets up residence in the sacral ganglion at the base of the spine. From there, it recurs in the genital area.

Transmission:
Herpes-1 is more widespread than Herpes-2 and is typically passed on during childhood generally by contact with contaminated saliva. It involves the lip, mouth and face through cold sores or “fever blisters” while Herpes-2 is passed on through genital discharge which mainly happens during sexual intercourse. Even though it is uncommon, it can be transmitted from an infected pregnant woman to her fetus. The sores frequently appears in or around the genitals.

Infections:
The most common parts of the body infected by these viruses are mucosal surfaces, usually the mouth or genitals, and then establish latency in the nervous system. HSV-1 causes oral and facial herpes while HSV-2 is causes genital herpes. However, it is also possible for Herpes-1, or aka ‘oral herpes’, to cause genital infections like Herpes-2 and vice-versa.
Early infections of Herpes-2 are generally more obvious than the initial infections of Herpes-1. Even though the first infections for most people are mild, it is possible for it to progress into serious infections especially if not treated well. If it does, then the infections that follow it may more severe than the first.

Symptoms:
Herpes-1 is usually asymptomatic (no symptoms) or is manifested by mild symptoms that comprises fever followed by inflamed gums and the development of white sores on the tongue and insides of the cheek which in time burst and form into yellow ulcers.

Similar to Herpes-1, Herpes-2, does not always show apparent symptoms that an individual has been infected. In fact, usually after a person has been infected, they are unaware they have Herpes. Early signs frequently come out within two weeks after the person has been infected, and includes flu-like symptoms and ulcers that appear on the genitals. It is usually preceded by burning or tingling in the affected area.

Testing:
There are thousands of std testing centers nationwide that can offer consultations and accurate tests to determine if an individual has herpes. Many people prevent treatment from taking place because they assume that they don’t have herpes or don’t make the time to take the test.

Treatments:
There are currently no drugs that can cure for Herpes, but treatments can lessen the symptoms. Warm baths may relieve the pain associated with genitals but medication can reduce the pain related to an outbreak, hasten healing and reduce number of outbreaks. Examples of drugs used for treatment of symptoms include Famvir, Zovirax and Valtrex.
